Dr. Prem. G. Nair
Chairman and Chief Consultant:
Decibel Institute of Hearing Balance and Speech Sciences was started with an aim to accurately determine pathophysiology of hearing, balance and speech disorders and to plan effective management strategy for these disorders based on the diagnosis. The institute is fully fledged with state-of-the-art facilities for in depth analysis and management of these disorders. The institute also plans to commence educational programs and to carry out research pertaining to this field.

Dr. Prem G. Nair is the founder and chief consultant at Decibel Institute, bringing over 25 years of experience in helping people with hearing and speech challenges. He holds a Ph.D. in Neuroaudiology from NIMHANS, one of India’s top medical research institutes, and has trained internationally in areas like balance disorders, tinnitus management, and cochlear implants.
Before starting Decibel, Dr. Nair served as the Head of the Department of Speech and Audiology at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences in Kochi. He has also worked in government and academic institutions, guiding students and professionals across the country.
Known for his compassionate approach and deep expertise, Dr. Nair is dedicated to offering personalized care to every patient. Whether it’s helping a child hear for the first time or supporting an adult with balance or speech difficulties, he believes in making a real difference in people’s lives.
Educational qualification:
Ph. D in Neuroaudiology from National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences, Bangalore (completed in 2010).Undergone one-year advanced course in Vestibular science and disorders certification from Salus University, United States of America.Undergone specialized training in Tinnitus Retraining Therapy under the guidance of Paul and Margaret Jastreboff (pioneers of TRT).Undergone specialized training in Cochlear Implant technology from Cochlear Private Limited.
Work experience
25 years of clinical expertise.
Served as Associate Professor and Head of the Department, Department of speech pathology and Audiology, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, AIMS, Kochi. (2010-2021) Worked as Audiologist and Speech Language Pathologist at Government Medical College Thiruvananthapuram (2009-2010).
Other professional positions held:
President, Indian Speech Language and Hearing Association, Kerala State Branch.
Served as Board of Studies member, examiner for various universities such as Kerala University, Kerala University of Health Sciences, Calicut University, Mangalore University, Manipal University, Vinayaka University, All India Institute of Speech and Hearing etc.
